Never Home Alone
Securing IoT devices from your home to everywhere
The Internet of Things is happening now. With internet connectivity rapidly expanding, smart homes are becoming ubiquitous; allowing users to remotely control various home appliances at anywhere and anytime. Because devices are more interconnected now than ever, it is critical for enterprises to start implementing security by design. Security cannot be an afterthought anymore; it needs to be in the forefront of every IoT product and service design.
Recently, Check Point’s Research team proved just how vulnerable our home devices can be. Our team found vulnerabilities within the LG Smart ThinQ platform that allows cyber criminals to take control of our home devices, such as a connected refrigerator or robot vacuum, and enable the camera feature on the device to view the user’s home environment. However, cyberattacks on IoT devices are not just limited to the home environment. Attacks can happen across all industries; from medical, retail, and industrial control systems/SCADA to automotive. Once hackers finds their way into a corporate environment, that breach can unsuspectedly become a hacker’s beachhead for launching a wider attack into an enterprise core IT system.
Enterprises need to build with security as a priority in mind. Incorporating even a simple security solution can help make a difference for any company.
